News of an event just in from our friends in Montenegro…
The year will come around and the international “Kitesfera Challenge 2006″ will happen in Montenegro, Ulcinj.
The Club Kitesfera with help of the company SLOFOTKE Jure Podpecan s.p. is organizing the challenge in witch the participation will be International. There are two invited gusests Remi Branco and Etienne Lhote and of course some more.
The challenge will start on 10.7. and will last too 15.7.2006 on the Big Ulcin beach in Montenegro. The challenge will be in the next discipline:
- Freestyle
- Downwind race
- in Hang time.
Of course the party will go on and on and on …!

You and your team can come to the international Kitesfera Challenge 2006 in Montenegro, Ulcin. The challenge will be from the 10th to 15th of July 2006.

And now for the spot!
The spot is on a sand beach a 300m long and approx. 60 to 80m wide zone of 14 km sand beach (the zone is, let say on the 10th km of the 14 km). From the late spring to the early autumn there is a W wind.
Sleeping!
We are sleeping in the city Ulcin thats 10 km from the spot in a police region of the city. The price for a night was in 2005 - 7-9 EUR on a person. You have a double or triple bed room (2 rooms in a floor), a kitchen and a bathroom. There is no luxury in the room, but you are the whole day on the beach.

I came back from my vacation. I was also for two days in Ulcinj on this beach. And its nice, fun, not too much of kiters in this time, so I had no problems with the lines and other kites. The bar is not a big one but its GREAT, you can get cold drinks. The people are friendly and helpful. In the city of Ulcinj are the Albanian people running as chickens without heads - you get used of it. The sleeping point in the police region is on a top of a hill and you can see the whole Ulcinj. I heard that in Croatia are 2 more spots, but had no time for them, than I was in Zadar for the rest of my vacation. The wind on the beach was from 14 to 18 knots.
On the pictures you can not see how big this beach is and there are two kite spots on it. The second one is not so great, there is no shade, no bar and nothing.
If I can I’m going to Ulcinj one more time in the next month and I can only recommend it.

The population of Ulchini (about 22,000) is a complex community in origin,tradition, cultural and social characteristics, which gives this town a unique charm and variety. Albanians ,Montenegrins and members of the other peoples and nationalities of live here. The Albanians are the majority about 85% of the populations.
Ulqini has assimilated descendants of Barbary Moors from Algeria who were settled here by Turks to defend the town, and Blacks, descendants of the numerous slaves brought here from Africa.
On the market days ,Tuesdays and Fridays, the center of the town becomes a real attraction. The colorful folk costumes of the various ethnic groups from surrounding villages is an outstanding photographic motif amply exploited by tourists and excursionist from all over Europe who come to visit Ulqini. For tourists who have come to spend their holidays in Ulqini, it is an experience not to be missed, even if it means skipping the beach for one day.
Ulqins folk costumes are traditional mark of this region and have preserved their original features even during the 20th century. Regardless of numerous cultural contacts, the costume has remained the part of the folk culture that has changed least and showed greatest tenacity.
There are several different folk costumes in this region: Montenegrin. the costume worn by Albanians in Ulqini itself-the city costume, the costume worn by Albanians in field of Anamali, the Bregasor, Shestan, Malesor, and Goran (Merkojevic) costumes.
All types of traditional costumes where homemade . Wool, cotton, flax and silk were used to make them, and every household had a horizontal loom on which the women wove. Besides weaving, the women also did embroidery, sewed on applique and knitted.

By the way Ulcinj has the most wind of the Adriatic. That’s why it’s good for sports.
My house in Ulcinj is very close to the surf club (and spot). Price is 8-10 euros.
