Stephen Northcott of Extreme Sports Cafe is entering Thailand’s 2006 125 Kart Champhionship at the Bira Circuit on the 13 and 14th of May.
The season has been underway for a few races already so Stephen is planning to use the remainder of this year to get back up to speed after a few years away from the sport. By the end of this season he expects to be competitive, but that does not mean he will not be going for wins in the next few races.. Next season he intends to launch his full Championship challenge.
Testing at an unfamiliar track and running in a new engine yesterday at the KR Circuit in Pattaya Stephen was just over 2 seconds off the required race lap pace. This was a happy result as the team was not going for speed, but rather working to familarise themselves with the style of track, kart and racing procudedures in Thailand. There was also slow traffic on the track at all times.. One practice session had some excitement when we had a brake failure at the end of the start finish straight. Stephen got that under control and limped the kart back to the pits for a quick repair, and then he was back out on track testing again.. However, this was on a rev limited engine (running in a new piston and main bearing), on old tyres and with the engine running rich. On the last session of the day, with the engine still running rich, with full revs and old tyres Stephen was getting much closer to the kind of lap times he expects to achieve in qualifying next week.
Extreme Sports Cafe will be providing some of the funding for this, and have just outfitted Stephen with his Kart and equipment for the next 2 seasons.
Race meets typically cost around 30,000 Baht in expenses and spares, assuming all goes reasonably well. For this reason Stephen and Extreme Sports Cafe are seeking additional sponsorship from interested parties.
Options for sponsorship include taking the team name (currently Extreme Sports Cafe Racing), kart livery and colours, as well as race suit / helmet livery. All of this can be linked to performance related options.
Thai Kart races get exposure on UBC Television at each event, so the exposure possibilities are good for any sponsor buying space on the Extreme Sports Cafe kart..
Please contact stephen [AT] extremesportscafe [DOT] com, if you would like to discuss sponsorship deals for single events, the 2006 season, or the 2007 season.
See you at Bira next weekend…
